Our Works

Flowing from our vision “to be a sign of God’s love for all creation in Jesus Christ”, the work of Caritas Malaysia is both faith and action. Rooted in the spirituality of Caritas — “the charity of Christ urges us” (2 Cor 5:14) — Caritas Malaysia responds to poverty, injustice, and crises with compassion, justice, and solidarity, walking alongside the vulnerable and marginalized. Each initiative reflects our call to uphold human dignity, care for creation, and build a community of hope, rooted in Christ’s love and committed to the common good.

disaster response

When disasters happen, lives are disrupted and many families are left without basic needs. Caritas Malaysia responds by offering food, clean water, shelter, and comfort to those affected. Through its nine diocesan offices, together with parish communities, volunteers, and partners, Caritas works to reach people quickly and provide help where it is most needed.

Caritas does not stop at emergency aid. It continues to walk with communities as they rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and regain stability. Training in disaster preparedness also helps diocesan teams and local communities to be better equipped for the future.

In recent years, Caritas has supported families affected by floods, provided aid during the pandemic, and offered assistance to neighbouring communities in crisis. Every response is an act of solidarity, rooted in the belief that no one should face hardship alone.

Migrants & Refugees

Many migrants and refugees face hardship, uncertainty, and lack of protection. Caritas Malaysia works to support their dignity and rights through both practical help and advocacy.

Caritas provides assistance such as food, shelter, and access to healthcare and education. At the same time, Caritas engages in dialogue and advocacy to encourage fair policies and better treatment for migrants and refugees. In all this work, Caritas partners with faith groups, civil society, and international Caritas organisations to build a culture of welcome and compassion.

Care for Creation

Caring for the environment is caring for people, especially the most vulnerable. Inspired by Laudato Si’, Caritas Malaysia promotes respect for the earth and sustainable ways of living.

Caritas supports tree planting and conservation projects, encourages waste reduction and recycling.

and organises awareness campaigns in parishes and communities. It also helps people develop sustainable livelihoods that protect natural resources.

Through these efforts, Caritas reminds communities that the earth is our common home, entrusted to us by God, to be cared for with gratitude and responsibility.

Rural, Urban Poor & Orang Asli

Many communities in rural and urban areas face poverty, limited access to services, and marginalisation. Indigenous Orang Asli communities face additional struggles to protect their culture and land.

Caritas Malaysia supports these groups through medical camps, food programmes, education, and sustainable agriculture initiatives. It also advocates for the rights of indigenous peoples and the dignity of the poor.

Caritas’ approach is simple: to walk alongside these communities, listen to their needs, and help them build a more secure and hopeful future.

Advocacy

Poverty, inequality, and injustice cannot be solved by charity alone. Caritas Malaysia also speaks up for those whose voices are often unheard.

Through advocacy, Caritas raises awareness of issues affecting the poor, engages in dialogue with authorities, and encourages fair and just policies. Areas of focus include migration, workers’ rights, and care for creation.

In this way, Caritas works with the Church and wider society to address root causes and build a more just and compassionate nation.
